Broadband Expansion is One of 12 Projects Supported by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s $10 Million Downtown Revitalization Initiative
BRONX, NY, January 23, 2019 — Neture, Inc., a broadband delivery company, will partner with community development non-profit Nos Quedamos to bring affordable high-speed internet to up to 7,000 South Bronx residents. The move is part of the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Last summer, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a $10 million investment in 12 transformational projects in the South Bronx. The investment reflects the Governor’s commitment to revitalize the Bronx and create more opportunities in the Bronx Civic Center Downtown neighborhood.
“The Bronx Civic Center neighborhood is the heart of the bustling Bronx and it must be showcased,” said Governor Cuomo, in a statement. “These projects will advance the Borough by leaps and bounds, increasing amenities to existing South Bronx residents and bringing further investment and community pride to the Bronx.”
Together, Neture and Nos Quedamos will establish a network to expand low-cost broadband access in Melrose Commons, a community within the targeted neighborhood. The network will offer free Wi-Fi in and around select public spaces and low-cost broadband service for residents within designated buildings owned by Nos Quedamos. There will also be opportunities for other residents within Melrose Commons to connect to the network.
Nos Quedamos and Neture are ideal partners. Neture, a socially driven company, aims to help close the digital divide by offering affordable high-speed internet to underserved communities and disconnected households. Nos Quedamos has been a long-time advocate for low-income families in the South Bronx.
“We’re excited to be part of this initiative,” said Neture CEO Marlin Jenkins. “In today’s economy, consistent internet service is critical. It’s more than entertainment. It’s about helping citizens get access to information that can significantly improve their overall quality of life. We’re talking about jobs, healthcare, education, training and more.”
More details about the project and Neture’s broadband service will be shared close to service availability. However, customers can expect to enjoy 25Mbps of high-speed internet starting at $20 per month. In the meantime, interested residents can sign-up to stay informed at www.neture.co.
Neture provides accessible high-speed internet access for underserved communities. Recognizing that a digital divide persists with more than 30 million disconnected US households, Neture designed a platform that provides access to the internet and localized resources. The platform serves as a gateway to request, pay, support, and adjust services. In addition, the platform will connect residents to local community services such as education, government, healthcare and housing. For more information, visit www.neture.co.
